Alpine RF-14F

Meets the latest edition of SAE AMS 1435

Alpine RF-14F® is a 50% w/w aqueous potassium formate solution. This advanced formula uses only the highest quality pure raw materials and meets the latest edition of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Aerospace Material Specification (AMS) 1435.

Potassium formate 50% w/w has the lowest environmental impact among all practically available runway de-icing products. Formates have been used in Europe for decades to reduce the environmental impact and loading on wastewater treatment facilities.
The Potassium Formate Freeze Curve indicates the temperature at which the solution will freeze given a certain percentage of active material.

Application Rates

NASi anti-icing/de-icing products are formulated with a proprietary corrosion inhibitor package to protect copper, brass, aluminum, zinc, and other metals and alloys. Local conditions such as ground and air temperatures, the frequency and intensity of precipitation (freezing rain, sleet, snow, rain or a mixture), humidity, and surface materials and application equipment will have significant effect on fluid and/or solid de-icing requirements. Liquid properties including viscosity, specific gravity, and surface tension as well as temperature will influence nozzle selection and spray pressure.

Alpine RF-14 may be used for anti-icing or as de-icing products. They are ready to use and require no dilution, mixing, or heating.

Anti-icing

The most efficient use of Alpine RF-14 is as an anti-icing product. Pre-treat the pavement uniformly before the onset of precipitation to help prevent the adhesion of ice and snow and ease mechanical removal.

For the best anti-icing performance, loose snow should be mechanically removed prior to applying Alpine RF-14 liquid runway de-icing product.

Suggested MINIMUM Application rate:
½ Gallon per 1,000 sq. ft.

De-icing

When using Alpine RF-14 as a de-icing product it is best applied in bands using high diffusion nozzles. This allows the fluid to penetrate the ice to break the bond with the surface to ease mechanical removal.

Suggested Application rate:
1 Gallon per 1,000 sq. ft. for thin ice and increase depending on the thickness of the accumulation – approximately 3 gallons per 1,000 sq. ft. for ice up to an inch thick.

Pre-wetting Solid

Alpine RF-14 improves the effectiveness of solid deicing products and sand. Alpine RF-11 can be sprayed directly on sand or solid deicing products or on the pavement when spreading.

Suggested Application rate:
The estimated application rate range is 5% to 15% by weight of solid material. This is approximately 1.25 gallons of Alpine RF-14 per 100 lbs. of sand or solid de-icing product.
